The Fruit of The Spirit

Paul describes nine fruits of the Holy Spirit - the evidence of a life lived in harmony with the Holy Spirit - in Galatians 5. We're going to examine one of these each week.

In Galatians 5, Paul suggests that there can be visible evidence of the work of the Holy Spirit that he calls the Fruit of The Spirit. We are going to look at these nine fruit, which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There are fairly obvious and simple definitions for each of these, but we are going to delve a little deeper and try to unearth what Paul means when he says “If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.” In other words, anyone can practice kindness, for example. What does it mean to practice Christian kindness? And, like fruit, how do these Fruit of the Spirit sustain us and others?
